 Robin Buss
Robin Buss is a 19-year-old (B&M Models) who recently arrived in Hong Kong to start her international career. The 176 cm (5'9") model is in Asia for the first time in her life and has kindly agreed to provide modelresource readers with occassional updates on her experience.
Another busy day, another busy week. As soon as I
stepped into the charging flow of Hong Kong, it really
swept me away! Life here is great. During the day I
have jobs that are fun and easy, during the night it's
social city. And somehow every day is still a unique
experience unto itself!
The other day I played basketball in Victoria Park,
that was a fun challenge! The courts are not only 98%
Asian, but until I joined a game, they were 100% male.
Some friends of mine, both from L.A. actually, invited
me to come play with them. So I strapped on my runners
and shuffled timidly on the court. I got a lot of
raised eyebrows, but after a couple minutes of
practice (I would have preferred days! Its been so
long!) we launched into a highly competative game. It
was so much fun! My guys set me up for a lot of shots,
and I really appreciated them giving me the benefit of
the doubt there. We won all three games. It felt so
good to ball.
My Dad left Hong Kong last week, so we ended a
wonderful trip together. We saw many sites, including
the Peak at dusk, Ocean Park (a fun, themed park with
a great aquarium), the Buddha on Lantau island (it was
extraordinarliy majestic)... we did shopping in Mong
Kok, we found some great vegetarian restaurants in
Tsim Sha Stui, Kowloon, as well as on the island, and
last but not least, we saw some great movies. Dad in
Hong Kong, what a great time we had.
Work has been a little light, I did a property promo
yesterday, which as any model knows, is easy work.
Just smile and great people as they inspect the
imacculately set up rooms. Besides some castings, I
also decided to participate in a charity fashion show
being put on by the Department of Justice, which
should be interesting. The clothes we are wearing were
all designed and made by convicts who are trying to
move their lives in a new direction. I was impressed
by how lovely the clothes are!
Gosh, have I even told you about Halloween? It's
really been that long! Halloween was a blast, I have
to tell you. Dragon-i had a wig party, which was
insane! I arrived to a sea of bopping pinks and whites
and blacks and reds, fros and dreads, curls, long
blond manes and one black braids... Halloween in Hong
Kong is too good to miss! I purchased a surprisingly
fitting afro in a light brown, and went as a cop from
the 70s. Afro, stilettoes, mini skirt and guns! It was
a blast.
Well, my time here is starting to come to a close. I
have already been here for two and a half months, and
I can feel the inevitable end drawing slowly near.
This trip has been so amazing, I love being here. I've
talked to a lot of people, models and others, and we
all agree: there is something magical about this
place. Hong Kong exists in some sort of fairy tale
bubble, it almost doesn't feel real. There always
seems to be available good food, good company,
parties, festivities. All played out to the music of
thousands of hearts beating on this beautiful
overflowing mountain of human residance and lush
green.
You've got to see it to believe it. And if you have
the opportunity to come here, take it! Honestly, I'm
already thinking about when I want to come back! Ho
wan! (good luck!)
