The Professional ProjectJune 2005

As part of Modelresource's ongoing commitment to demystifying the world of modelling, this article was put together to help clients understand the process of pulling together a professional photoshoot involving a model.
Booking a model when you have no experience in the industry can be an intimidating experience. It doesn't have to be.
For this article, I worked with Areta, a designer working between Winnipeg and Toronto, who will soon be launching a website to showcase her sensibly feminine and entirely wearable pieces.
The shoot had a conservative budget, allowing only a photographer, one artist that could do both hair and makeup, and one model.

THIS IS IMPORTANT: You don't always need to hire one person to do hair and another to do makeup. If your needs are simple you can usually find one person with a general knowledge of both disciplines.
Ideally we would have also hired a stylist to ensure the accessories matched, and the clothing hung properly (basically, the stylist's job is to ensure the look is complementary, complete, but uncluttered). Because of our budget however, we relied on Areta's excellent sense of style, and the input of the others on location.
THIS IS IMPORTANT: The biggest thing with pulling together a project like this, especially if you're new, is to plan well in advance, know your budget, and be prepared with an alternate (as you will read on the following pages) if your first choice doesn't work out.
