Day Two of L'Oréal Fashion Week Spring 2007

Niomi Pearson and
Andrea Gratton
If you've read any fashion week coverage for the past the past two seasons you know this site's opinion of these two Next Models.

Niomi Pearson and Andrea Gratton are two outstanding models, both in photos and on the runway. Rumour has it they're also Karaoke legends at a local pub.

Last night they appeared together in Arthur Mendonça, then Andrea did David Dixon later in the evening.

Jess
After getting our hopes up about seeing Ford's Jess make her L'Oréal Fashion Week debut, Modelresource learned last night she has fractured her ankle and won't be doing shows this week. (I guess she really wanted to be 'cast').

She was scheduled to be in JUMA last night, and a few more throughout the week.

Marija
If there was any good to come of Jess' ankle injury (the writer says selfishly) it's that we got our one and only look at Marija this week.

I was sitting with the Editorial Director of Luscious Magazine, discussing how much we both like Jess, when her spot in JUMA's lineup came up... then out stepped Marija.

If the FDCC had gone through with their idea to build press around the models, this would be an excellent candidate. Her appearances on New York's runways were so striking and her attitude is what fashion is about.

Sadly however, Marija is now back in New York.

Alana Zimmer in Dean Horn
Another ideal girl around whom to build media buzz is Elmer Olsen's Alana Zimmer.

The 5'11" brunette appeared in Arthur Mendonça and Dean Horn last night.

Irina Funtikova
following Arthur Mendonça
I sit through a LOT of shows - more than almost anyone in this city - and it never fails that when Elite's Irina Funtikova strolls past my seat someone around me comments on her extraordinary presence.

Her eyes, her walk... everything is so "into the show," which is why she was booked for shows like Heatherette, Diane von Furstenberg and Sabyasachi in New York last month.

If there is one criticism I have of several of the models yesterday (Irina is not one of them) it's that they were watching themselves on the screens while they were on the runway, rather than keeping their eyes straight ahead.

Robin Buss in FCUK, Tueday
While Modelresource's finger furiously fire off updates, B&M's Robin buss has been keeping step (ummm... literally and figuratively).

We had to move the "Contributors" section to the side of the main page during fashion week, but Buss has added two excellent Fashion Week updates in the past couple days.

The most recent, which talks about her opening day experience, can be read here.

Justyna
I'm wondering how long before fashion editors catch on to this face. I always write about what a star she is on the runway, but everything about Giovanni's Justyna is beautiful.

She's bright, she's interesting and hopefully it won't be much longer before photographers and editors start demanding more of her time.

Larah
Stylus Canada just got this girl... just in time to line her up for KAVI KAVI Thursday.

5'10", 14-year-old Larah signed with the agency Friday, and will make her L'Oréal Fashion Week debut on the same day Stylus presents their Fashion Week party in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

More details on the fundraiser can be seen here.

I've been scouted!!!
One of the more fun sports last night was seeing where these Giovanni "I've Been Scouted!!!" stickers were appearing.

Agency Director Alan Thomas and Booker Sharon Smith were both on site yesterday, slapping these on passers-by. Those stickers then travelled from there.

Much of the fashion week staff and every one of the six B&M models in the FCUK show (at the insistence of B&M's owner Mel Mateus) also sported the badge. Even police outside Muzik were seen wearing them.

I'm told more antics are in store from Giovanni... I can't wait to see what's next...

Mel Mateus, Tommy
and Gail McInnes
Tommy was one of the six B&M models in the FCUK show that closed off Day Two. And frankly, he was lots of fun to watch.

There a certain boyish cockiness about Tommy on the runway that's entertaining, but not distracting. During one of his runs yesterday he slid on to the stage like a hockey player coming to a stop, then proceeded to do his run with a straight face.

During his next set he broke into a small laugh at some (presumably) private joke. The whole attitude worked really well with FCUK's clothes.

Tara Lanoway (left), and Carole Reynolds with Ann Sutherland
Nice to see the agencies turning out to support Canadian Fashion. In Day One coverage Modelresource showed you many of the bookers and agents from Toronto's modelling firms.

Last night I caught up still more.

On the left is the Men's Director at Elmer Olsen, Tara Lanoway. The entire staff from was on hand early yesterday to support their various models.

On the right are Sutherland's Carole Reynolds and Ann Sutherland who also got to see plenty of their models.

Eva Shaw
Those in attendance on the opening night were treated to a very cool video presention of the coming season's hair and makeup trends, presented by L'Oréal Paris.

One of the trends dealt with childhood influences like pastels and bright candy-like colours.

Modelresource will be interviewing L'Oréal Paris makeup guru Eddie Maleterre and lead hair artist Eric Del Monaco this week to learn what they feel models should know for fashion shows.

In the meantime, have a look at this photo from the Media Room. This is Maleterre's work on the incredible face of Eva Shaw (who was outstanding in JUMA last night).

Kiley
A couple weeks ago I was sitting at my local Starbucks when a tall, beautiful blonde walked in.

I didn't recognize her right away, but a quick trip over to Elmer Olsen's website reminded my it was Kiley (who you may remember as one of the more visible face in The Bay's Olympic campaign.

This was her Tuesday, in the Arthur Menconça show.

The 5'10" blue-eyed blonde leaves for Tokyo right after fashion week.

Lynne Crocker with
Tristan Tran
At the end of September Modelresource introduced you to Next newface, Lynne Crocker.

Last night I met her in person following her runway debut for JUMA.
