About The Site

It was not a coincidence that modelresource.ca was registered on July 1st. This site was designed as a Canadian complement to modelresource.com - a tool created at the request of models in need of credible, up-to-date information.

Modelling is a dynamic, complex, confusing industry. Ideally, I want this to be the first place people go when they have questions about modelling. Since modelresource.com went live in 2001, I have received a lot of e-mail on a variety of issues. After two years of struggling with how to give a Canadian perspective to issues that aren't limited to a Canadian model's experience, I decided to separate out the information and maintain two distinct sites.

Thousands of hours have gone into building this site. Thousands more will go into maintaining and improving it.

For models looking for information on worldwide agencies, please refer to the more established modelresource.com. Right now there are nearly 1,500 agencies listed in its directory - likely the largest list of its kind. Exhaustive poring over phone books and digging through online directories has helped to ensure a comprehensive database to help models, clients and other agencies find the people they are looking for. Unfortunately, in an industry such as modelling, agencies come and go -- they evolve, they change phone numbers and e-mails. We do our best to keep up with the changes, but the only thing of which we can ever be certain is that we are more up-to-date, comprehensive, accessible and inexpensive than any paperback directory.

The glossary is another feature that sets modelresource apart. Modelling has a lingo all its own. We've tried to be clear, concise and complete in our definitions.

Among the additions coming soon to modelresource.ca are more features on individual Canadian agencies.

If you have ideas would like to see on modelresource.ca, please let me know. I'm always interested in hearing your thoughts.

About the Publisher

Dan Grant has owned and operated agencies in Saskatoon and Calgary, and has placed models with agencies in the U.S., Asia, Europe, Australia and, of course, right here in Canada. As an agency director his primary focus was on developing models for international placement, with a strong emphasis on giving models the knowledge and confidence they needed to work successfully overseas.

His formal training as a journalist, early involvement with the internet, and attention to detail enabled him to research markets and trends, giving his models a firm understanding of what to expect as they travelled to foreign markets.

Dan was the founding editor of the Open Directory Project's Fashion Modelling section - a position he held for four years. He left that position to concentrate on the development of modelresource.com, following countless desperate e-mails received from new models and their parents in need of reliable information.

He currently lives in downtown Toronto with his actor/singer wife.
